About Us
Thank you for your interest in our services! Pet sitting is a great alternative to boarding your pets. The boarding kennel is a highly stressful environment and doesn't suit many pets or their owners. We are here to provide the kind of care and attention that your pets deserve.
We (Rebekah & Keith) started Better Than Boarding in early 2007 in Binghamton, New York. We got married in December 2007 and moved to Greenville, North Carolina, where we continued pet sitting and dog walking. We made our final move to Simpsonville, SC in the summer of 2008, and couldn't be happier! Both of our families also moved to the area and this is where we plan to stay. We love taking our dogs bike riding, hiking, swimming, walking and anywhere they're welcome.
We have six dogs: Colada (shiba inu), Jack (shiba inu), Cash, CGC (border collie mix), Bindi (papillon mix), Sister (lhasa apso mix), and Sooky (blue heeler). And a tortoise called Lassie...
Colada was our first dog. She came to us in December of 2005. She is timid but very intelligent. She has special "mental powers" and doesn't have to be a bully to get what she wants. Her love, attention and affection are reserved for a special few. You are lucky if you are one of them. Her favorite obsession is her feather cat toy. She is absoloutely one of the most important beings in my life!
Jack is dog #2. He came to us in February of 2006. Jack is a character. At four years old, he still shreds toilet paper and steals things. He thinks that it's his job to inspect everything. Jack came with "issues"... at 13 weeks of age. He was uncomfortable with close contact with other living things. With intensive conditioning, Jack has become calm and non-reactive with friendly dogs. Jack loves people that he knows, but prefers to be ignored by strangers.
Cash was a foster dog that came to us in June 2007. He had been adopted from a shelter recently, and his owner was in a horrible car crash. Unable to care for him, we took him in as a foster. When his owner's health wasn't improving, she asked us to adopt him, and we agreed. Cash was a wild man at first--escaping fences and slipping collars and harnesses whenever he could. He wanted to be on the run. With time, patience and training, Cash earned his CGC (Canine Good Citizen) award in January of 2009. He is a social dog that loves people and even has off-leash skills! His favorite activity is bike riding.
Bindi was found in a storm on the side of the road at about five months of age in May 2008. We adopted her from the PetSmart parking lot. Bindi was always a barker, and still is. She is an extremely sensitive dog and is working through issues in training class right now. She lacks confidence, but is very sweet once you get to know her. She loves to play with other dogs.
Sister came onto our porch in the summer of 2008. She was matted, flea infested, skinny, had an eye infection and ear mites. We had planned to adopt her out once cleaned, spayed and in good health but figured we could provide her with a better home than anyone else. She is extremely sweet and loves all people and dogs.
Sooky was an owner surrender in September 2009, when she was 9 months of age. She has endless amounts of energy. She is the most intelligent and versatile dog that I have every met or owned. She loves people and is great with other dogs (as long as they don't take her ball!). Her favorite things to do are bike riding, swimming and ball fetching... preferably all in one day... all day.
We also occasionally have rescue dogs for adoption, check out our 'For Adoption' page!
